Smith and Williams: Ralphs Market (South Pasadena, Calif.)
Description
Smith and Williams designed several schemes for Ralphs Grocery Stores. For the South Pasadena location, they designed a distinctive frame for the facade that faces the parking lot. The frame is made up of an expressionistic roof edging held up by attenuated pillars or columns, creating an exuberant false front, which acts as a billboard for the store.
